Lynn Book created "Gorgeous Fever," an original multimedia performance project from which the radio drama recording emerged as a stand lone project. Title A name given to the resource Gorgeous Fever: the radio drama, performed, 1995, Milwaukee, Woodland Pattern, video documentation Description An account of the resource Lynn Book evolved her original multimedia performance project, “Gorgeous Fever”, from 1994-97, insisting on demonstrating the project’s themes - madness, power and transformation - in the evolution of the live performance. Book was writer, artistic director, performer, co-designer and co-composer of the performance project, as well as the recorded work, “Gorgeous Fever: the radio drama”, which received support from a MacArthur Foundation Project Residency through the Experimental Sound Studio (ESS), Chicago. The performance thereafter included the apparatus of a radio drama replete with tabletop sound effects and cassette tapes, such as this performance at Milwaukee’s, Woodland Pattern in 1996. In this iteration, Book works over a highly reduced and inverted hierarchy projected through a complex outer scaffold in the 1994 premier, revealing her director’s position, performing the doubled outside/inside conundrum of a woman’s (erotic) body inscribed by patriarchal structures. This performance is followed by a solo performance of Dada artist, Kurt Schwitters’, “Ursonate” (1929), which Book performed from 1984 to 2013.
