Description
This Projects Collection is comprised of selected sub-collections of Audio Works - all recorded as discrete sound pieces or CD (compact disc) recordings intended for circulation beyond or apart from any performance of these works. That said, even the compilation CD from 2009, “voicing bodies” contains works that were intended to be performed, or in some cases that were recorded from live concerts (“blink”, “bird”, “Requiem”). “the dice chronicles” is a series of compilation CDs of “adventurous women composers”, one of which Book co-produced with Elise Kermani, who conceived of the project, but also included several live events and CD release concerts at The Knitting Factory and The Kitchen in New York City, for instance. This Collection is intended to draw attention to the central role that Book’s experimental vocal work has played throughout her development as a performance and transmedia artist. From co-creating early sound recordings for performance and video art works from 1980-82 found in Early Works Collection, to “Water Dirges”, a multitrack reel to reel recording from 1983 when the artist moved to Chicago. By the early 90s in Chicago, Book found her footing in contemporary new music, jazz and sound art spaces in Chicago and elsewhere through text-based club performances and her more musical collaborations with avant garde bassist, Tatsu Aoki. Included in this Collection is another significant duo collaboration with noted Viennese pianist, composer and improvisor, Katharina Klement, with the “t(w)o wanderers” CD recording that arose from a multimedia performance project, “Regarding Next”. Also included in this Collection are reviews that highlight and give critical acclaim to Book’s vocal work and concert performances, announcements and press releases. The Concert Performance Collection has related materials that include video documentation of some of the CD releases as well as audio recordings from live concerts. The works:
