Title

Gorgeous Fever, 1997, New York, The Kitchen, multimedia performance, performance text

Description

This is the final "Gorgeous Fever" text written and performed by Lynn Book in 1997 at The Kitchen, an alternative arts space in New York City. This original text evolved over the course of the three-year project and drew from her handwritten journals, sketchbooks, and scholarly research into topics of illness, sexuality, power and transformation. Book's research led her to excerpt and adapt two outside texts: Kathy Acker's "American Eyes" for the Doctor Sex scene and Antonin Artaud's radio piece "To have done with the judgement of God" for the Consciousness scene. The latter scene was performed as a 16 mm film voice-over with the "Gorgeous Fever" trio.
