Gorgeous Fever, 1996, Cleveland Performance Art Festival, Cleveland, video documentation

Description

Lynn Book created Gorgeous Fever as a single commissioned multimedia performance work in 1994, premiering it at Randolph Street Gallery, Chicago. Book continued evolving the project, creating multiple iterations that showed at, among other venues, the annual Cleveland Performance Art Festival, in 1996. In this video version, Book had stripped down what started as a deliriously baroque meditation on illness, sexuality, power and transformation. The late 19th Century Cleveland Arcade provided site-specific input and Book had developed multiple narrator voices having recently developed a ‘radio drama’ version of it with MacArthur funding for the Experimental Sound Studio in Chicago.
