Description
Lynn Book’s original multimedia performance project, Gorgeous Fever, was commissioned in 1994 by the Governor’s School for the State of Illinois, and it previewed at the Allen Theatre at Illinois State University in Normal. This complex work was conceived of and created by Book as writer, artistic director, co-designer and co-composer, and featured her as solo performer. Book interrogated key themes inflected by Feminist and Cultural Theory, medieval histories of the body and its treatment, 19th Century circus performers, and ventriloquism
among other humanist research pathways in this work. They included: illness, sexuality, power and transformation which were grounded in and emerged from her robust studio practices that included writing, drawing, audio journaling and movement studies. This theory/practice weave is a hallmark of her body of work and produces a particular order of innovation in method as well as form.
