Vox Risk Holler, 2003, New York City, Dixon Place, project video documentation

Description

This digitized video documents Vox Risk Holler, an open community of voicing bodies invested in the sociality of sounding and singing together as an act of creative resistance. VRH was founded by Lynn Book in New York CIty in the days following the U.S. invasion of Iraq after 9/11 as an extension and amplification of public presence across various cultural borders in New York. The 2 works here, “The Moon” and “Feist Squared” were composed and conducted by Lynn Book at Dixon Place / Vineyard Theater as part of a Voicelab production. This initial performance in 2003 featured about 20 people who were involved with Book in various settings including Voicelab (Book’s education and cultural center), The Kitchen Summer Institute, and Sarah Lawrence College where she taught voice for 5 years in the Theater program.
