Building Blocks, 1981, Black and White and in Between, Memphis, film for performance

This film element was projected during the course of the live performance, Building Blocks, 1981, Memphis College of Art. It was part of a trilogy of original, multimedia performances created by Lynn Book under the event title of Black and White and In Between. This film element was shot as a black and white video that was then played back on a television monitor and shot with a 16mm camera. Book staged all the layers, including some live intervention during the course of the film shoot. During the performance, Book stood on a ladder and interacted with the projected film. Other elements included an ensemble of players creating live percussion with wood blocks, prerecorded sound, and two additional performers.
